PARAMUS, NJ – A local father’s beloved man cave has been temporarily converted into a Spirit Halloween location after he vacated his home during a trial separation, sources confirmed Monday.

The seasonal retailer reportedly moved into the 400-square-foot basement space last week, just 30 seconds after 44-year-old Kevin Walsh loaded the final box of his belongings into his car and drove away.

“I barely made it to the end of the street,” said Walsh spent the past seven years transforming the basement into what he described as “the ultimate place to watch football, drink beer and not be bothered.” “Then Melissa called and said there was a Spirit Halloween sign in the window.”

When Walsh returned later that afternoon to retrieve a forgotten pair of shoes, he found his former sanctuary almost completely unrecognizable.

The 65-inch television had been replaced by a wall of Halloween masks. His leather recliner was surrounded by skeletons. His dartboard was covered by a display of vampire costumes, and a six-foot animatronic clown had been positioned exactly where Walsh’s beer fridge once stood.

“I was gone for maybe an hour,” Walsh said. “They had already installed a fog machine.”

According to Spirit Halloween store manager Ashley Moreno, the company had been monitoring the situation closely and was prepared to move in as soon as the space became available.

“We were waiting,” said Moreno. “The second he pulled away, we gave it 30 seconds to make sure he wasn’t coming back, then we started unloading.”

Moreno said the store’s employees worked quickly to transform the basement, removing most of Walsh’s belongings and replacing them with fake gravestones, plastic skeletons, inflatable monsters, costumes, decorations and several hundred pounds of candy.

“We had a crew in the parking lot with a truck,” she said. “We had no idea when he was leaving, but we wanted to be ready.”

The speed of the takeover has left Walsh feeling particularly violated.

“I spent seven years building that room,” he said. “They spent 30 seconds taking it.”

Spirit Halloween officials defended the rapid transition, noting that the company has a long history of appearing unexpectedly in vacant retail spaces and disappearing just as quickly.

“We’re not trying to make this permanent,” Moreno said. “That’s not really our thing. We’re basically the guy with a motorcycle and leather jacket who bangs single moms for a while and then leaves at the first mention of Christmas.”

According to Moreno, the store will eventually close without warning, leaving behind little evidence that it was ever there.

“One day, we’ll just be gone,” she said. “No forwarding address. No explanation. Just an empty basement and maybe some glitter.”

At press time, Walsh was reportedly considering asking his wife if he could move back into the house after the trial separation, but was advised that the basement would remain occupied through Halloween.

“I guess I’ll find somewhere else to watch football,” he said.
